I'm taking my kids camping this weekend and was hoping to take my camera along. I am worried that the heat (it's summer in Australia and really hot)will affect my camera. I intend to leave the camera in the boot of my car when not in use and the temperature in the boot may get very hot.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I would not leave your camera in a very hot place like a car. I lived in Florida and It gets very hot in a car. Well over 150F I'm sure. You can check your manual for the camera and it should tell you the storing temp. ranges. The other effect the heat has on the camera is that you may see a little more noise in your images because of a hotter then normal sensor. Hope this helps

You could try taping the camera/lens full of tin foil.

use a small cooler, it should keep the temperature lower than the cars. You could put some packaged ice (not much you don't want to freeze it) in there too as long as it doesn't leak or get it too cold to cause problems when you bring it back to the outdoors temperature. Also works well as a theft protector, unless of course someone is looking for coolers to steal. ;)
