I did some holiday pet portriaits and got to thinking about another idea...so to kind of test market this idea, please tell me if you think it would work (as in make money).

Have a family portrait day (proabably a Sunday after church) at assisted living / nursing homes?

I figure they might want a photo of grandma or grandpa and they can't travel, but after church the family will be all dressed up and can visit and do a portrait.

I know when my wife's grandmother was in the home we all went and took some bedside shot with the great grand kids. If we'd had the chance (been marketed to) to do something before she was on her deathbed we might have done it (in connection with easter or something certainly would have).

Next door to me is an assisted living home and i know the manager rather well, so I have an 'in' - just need to know if the idea has merit or perhaps i should stay off the bottle LOL.

Sounds like a great idea to me. And you are definitely correct, sundays are probably a big day for family visits. If you try it, let us know how it goes :-)

It is interesting here that no photographer wants to travel, as in leave their studio. Since i wanted to be a wedding photographer, that part was a given!

The pet thing was set up via a mutual friend and worked well - they did hte advertising and scheduling, i did the photography at their place and set the prices, packages, etc. Did a bit over $900 in sales in 4 4 hour days. Low end stuff too, i mean $16 packages and some upselling. I netted very little as they got 40% and the humane society got 10%, and i had to get a backdrop and props, but the idea seems to be a good one...next year will be a killer year!

But now i have some experience at this portrait thing, and a backdrop...and time on my hands LOL.

I guess i may give them a call tomorrow and see if they think the idea will fly. I want an AB first....damn this is an expensive 'hobby' when you try to make it a business!
