I just re read the Challenges and they say take a picture as if YOU are too early (or too late). What if you take a picture of, for an example, a fox just missing catching a rabbit. Would that picture not satisfy the theme because it is not You!!! |

My opinion: I think that would be a good entry for the challenge. You were there to witness the fox just missing catching the rabbit, and to me that would meet the challenge quite nicely.

I was a bit put off by the descriptions too, but I figure an idea like that would work because you were too late to catch the moment with your camera. |

Yes, this descriprion is placing emphasis on the photographer, that is, if he is too late or too early. Is this what is really meant or are they refering to an image that displays a sitiation of too late or too early.
Semantics...

Thank you for the explanations Ursula, Karen and Dan. I feel much better about my submission now. |

FWIW, I had a shot all ready to enter in "Too Late" showing turning in a 30 year overdue library book. Then I reread that description and tossed the entry because the description says to be set up for the shot but take the picture too early or too late. Obviously the picture was taken at the right time!
I'd say that if the fox caught the rabbit and consumed it, then you took the picture, then that would be a "too late" entry. Perhaps a picture of the fox with some rabit fur in his mouth. (Don't expect a good score with this, though!)

This is still far from clear.
Suppose you set up a situation that reeks of too late, but then all you are doing is capturing the image. This is very different from setting up a shot where it is obvious that the photographer himself is late in capturing.
example 1: you show an egg rolling with hand trying to grab it, but misses and the egg splats with a trail of motion. How is the photographer late here?
example2: (per description) you show the set up with set up mechanics going on. Like throwing something in the air to appear to suspend and catching the hand in the picture. Too early in clicking the shutter.

In that case, can we post flower pics, and title it "too late to see the seed" ? |

Well, maybe this is one of those challenges where we get to appreciate and enjoy all the beautiful pictures just for what they are rather than get too hung up about whether they fit everyone's personal interpretation of the description or not.

Just submitted a last minute entry.... again! I've been having the same issues as what everyone else has been having for this challenge. I hope mine fits the bill as well.
I'm entry #101. I just hope to place in the top 100 :P
Good luck to everyone in this small challenge. |

I'm taking this route as well. Actually the way I vote, most people get pretty high scores unless those photos are really... well... bad |

Ok I'll go with this also, everyone meets the challenge and deserves a high score. |

What you have to do for your picture to do well in any challenge is to make sure, and I mean absolutely sure, that the digits (in your submission number) add up to 4. So you should have waited and submitted picture #103.

Nah, only good pictures deserve a high score.
Seriously though. I think that in challenges like these two, where the descriptions are vague, we have to be more lenient with our criteria for what does and doesn't meet the challenge. Or, to put it another way, there are many different ways to looks at everything.

But of course you can. The trick is to wait around until just the right moment.

He, he, he, no, not me. But I do make sure that most everything adds up to 4, and I also never step on white lines if I can help it. But since I have no idea why, it's not superstition, just "ticks" :)))

This challenge is going to drive me nuts. I keep looking at my picture and I can't decide if it is too early or too late. I just switched it from the too early challenge to the too late challenge!!! |

Good, because if my entry doesn't fit the challenge to the voter one of 3 things is happening:
1. The are on some kinda drug..
2. They don't get it, and I'm sorry I could no matter what make it more clear.
3. They have entered in the same challenge and mine is more clever than theirs:) |
