Not sure if this has been posted yet, but it should come up again for those that may have missed it the first time.
These batteries, (EN-EL3), have been recalled due to overheating during charging and potentially catching fire! Heres the web site to check the batch number of your battery.

and the list was expanded as well ..

bummer... when i saw this was an expanded list, i was hoping some of the older ones would be recalled, but no such luck. my wife's _was_ recalled and was replaced with the newer EN-EL3e...
(yes yes... i took the newer one for my camera, but it was her suggestion... honest)

My battery wasn't on the list, but my spare didn't have the batch code on it. I'm assured that it is an original Nikon, but they replaced it with a higher powered Sanyo one. |

| Packing & sending mine back tomorrow. This is a bummer! In the meantime (today) I have two subjects I already agreed to shoot. If I'm never heard from again, at least I will have checked out with my camera in hand. |
