It is getting close to Christmas and I am sure some young men out there are thinking of the train under the tree. Just though I'd share these scenes with you taken this fall.
Northeast Ohio Live Steamers have a deal with the local parks system - they get to use ten acres of park land in return for providing free train rides. So for four hours, twice a month during the summer and fall months, children (and all the old children) get to ride many different models of trains as often as the like over a one mile of 7.5 gauge track.
Funds to create a life size station and to maintain the loop around it came from a private donor which were matched by Friends of the Park. The trains, basically diesel and steam, must get annual safety inspections including ultra sounds to check the thickness of the boiler platting.
Needless to say, by popular demand, the rail lines are expanding to a three mile run with miniature workings and scenic gardens along the way.
Their most popular run is during Halloween when all the volunteers dress in costumes. . . all friendly creatures of course!
The club holds summer camps for children 10 to 18. There are a lot of children around her anxious to urn ten. Actually, some of the adults turn ten waiting for their turn to ride!

Where in NE Ohio? I am just soouth of younstown and would enjoy a visit with my little train fans.
My wife's grandfather was a member of a Baltimore, MD live steamer club in Lincoln Park that worked under a similar agreement.
