On the advice of people on this board, I'm looking to purchase a Manfrotto 3021pro tripod. Unfortunately, no one in this city has them. Nor does Manfrotto specifically acknowledge a 3021. But everyone sells a model called the 190pro which looks the same, is described the same, and costs the same, and yields the same accolades.

Is this the same thing?

Bogen/Manfrotto 3021 pro

this is just the legs - there are kits with heads too.

It's the same company. The 190 Pro is the same as the 3001 Pro, not the 3021. The 3021 is rated at 13 lbs and the 190 is only rated at 11lbs.

As beloved as B&H may be, I like to buy locally wherever possible. Is there a translation for the 3021 which I can be looking for around here? A google search reveals multiple sources saying that the 3021pro is the 190pro in Canada, what's your source (actually intrigued, not causing problems)?

Manfrotto 055CLB, 055PRO or 055PROB are the same as the 3021. But remember, there are alternatives. The 3021 is not the only (or the best) tripod in it's price range.

I have the 190 pro and it's just dust collecting.. it's way to heavy to carry around, I just bought the Manfrotto CarbonOne 441 to be able to travel with a tripod, I know it's expensive but it's worth it, you'll leave the 190 pro at home after taking it on a couple of hikes.

but it's an excellent studio tripod, good for macro, really steady and a first class tripod, but it's just not made for travel ;)

I have the 190 PRO. I use it quite a lot. I have a shoulder strap for it and it also fits on my backpack so its not that much of a bother.

Budget conscious college student previously using his parents' cheap plastic tripod (getting tired of the creaking and cracking noises with the D100 on top). I desperately need a good yet affordable tripod and I don't do a whole lot of really long hiking so the weight isn't a crippling factor. A good thing to consider though, so thanks.

It appears the 055pro is the one I'm looking for (thanks nsbca7) and 5 pounds isn't too bad for carrying.

I was going to buy the 3021 pro last xmas (got a rebel instead) and got to hold/carry/see one in person - HEAVY. Very heavy.

I am still undecided...CF i think is my choice, but with that and a grip/ball head the cost is up theres a way...i think AB's will come first.

My crappy tripods are aluminum, well, some plastic in there. I HATE pan and tilt heads, so there are no 'cheap' alternatives.

The other issue is height - i want a tripod i don;t have to bend over to use - and one where i don;t ahve to extend the center pole all the way either. It seems 95% of the tripods out there are for dwarves or something ;p
