This may be an 'And I want a pony! A YELLOW pony!' kind of question, but does anyone make a digital camera with all the following features that isn't frelling huge?
- Optionally manual focus (meaning it has auto too)
- Optionally manual exposure control
- Optionally manual shutter speed
- 'film speed' up to 800

The Sony F717 is a fairly good example of the sort of thing I mean. It's in many ways my perfect camera, except that I'd have to carry it in its own separate bag (and it's probably heavy, at least compared to my current camera) instead of tucking it neatly in a purse pocket as I do now. That would kill my spontaneity. I don't actually set out to 'go take pictures,' I just do my life and happen to have my camera with me at all times.

eloise, there are several that fit the features you are looking for, the Sony V1 is small and has a lot of features, its still new and people are still in battle over its image and build quality, but thats typical of ANY new camera model.
also Canon makes some small size feature rich cameras...

I don't know what "frelling huge" means, but as for the features, the Olympus C5050Z has all of them except that film speed goes up to ISO400. ISO400 is a bit grainy, I've been using mine mainly in ISO64, even in low light situations.

There are quite a number of others out there with the features you're looking for.

coolpix 4500 does all of that well, and fits in your pocket

The recent Canon's (A60 & A70) do all you want except they only go to ISO400. Don't know if they're as small as you'd like, but I'm very happy with the size & performance of my A40 (although it lacks manual focus).

Ah, I had that link somewhere once but lost it. Thanks!

You might want to check out the Fuji FinePix F601 Zoom. The camera is about the size of my hand, and can be put into the front pocket of a (slightly) loose fitting pair of jeans.

If you want to see some examples of what the camera can do, check out my earlier challenge submissions in my portfolio.
