Nothing as exciting as it sounds but I have an audition for a tv game show called "Deal or No Deal" in the UK.
Has anyone be part of this sort of thing or works in this media and can give me some idea of what they will be looking for? I would really like to get through to take part in the show!
:)

They are probably wanting someone who is full of smiles and really easily excitable! Practice your surprise screams! hehe

Noel Edmunds hosts the show. It features a number of people who have a sealed box in front of them. Inside the box is a card with an amount of money on it. One person has to deal off the low amounts and a telephone dealer offers cash sums which contestant can take rather than seeing if they have the highest amount available.

Last week a woman was down to four boxes, was offered £32,000 but she declined, as one was still £250,000. After picking and eliminating another low amount the dealer offered £50,000, she declined and dealer offered £152,000 she accepted. Her box was opened and it contained £750...simplistic account but gives you an idea.

Steve

If you can scream when you win, get over excited and jump about, then you should be fine.

The key is moderation.
Entertaining but not overbearing
Smart but not nerdy
Personable, but don't talk too much
and whatever you do don't look shy or too nervous. Have fun :)

The show is on here in the US next week I believe. Looks like it'll be interesting. Good luck and let us know what happens!

I shall let you know!
We tend not to go for screams and jumping up and down! It's not a "loud " show but relies on tension building. The good thing about it is that everyone who gets through to the show (22 at a time) gets play the game at some point and try to get the money! OK it will be fun but I really want to win a reasonable amout of money if possible!

not me, I'd only be interested in winning UNreasonable amounts of money - you know, where people say "why would you need that much money, you could never spend it all"

Heard something about that show here (US) a couple of days ago. Looks like they're doing a US version to begin soon.

Well congrats and good luck! I think megatherian gave some good advice. When we were kids and I lived in the city (NYC) they still shot game shows live on stage. We would get into as many 'test audiences' as we could and you could not only see the selection process, but the actual taping of the current show if you stayed long enough. A lot different back then. The ones who were shy or reserved were out on the first round of screenings almost always. If the audience didn't react to them, gone. If they were over the top - gone. If they just couldn't control themselves in any way - gone. And this was after their testing and all that that they do.

Again, good luck! Keep us updated!

thanks for the good advice everyone! I'll let you know how the audition goes in ten days time.

Apparently the show is being formatted around the world and is already a big hit in most European countries. It started here about five or six weeks ago.

I agree megatherian - UNreasonable amount of money sounds good! If I do get on the show I shall probably end up with £1 !!!

-Treat ALL the workers on the show (director, casting director, producer, host, lighting tech, cameraman etc.) like REAL people. After all, they are real people. If you are pleasent and respectful, they will hold you in higher esteem than if you kiss their butts.
-OWN yourself. There is no reason be to nervous!
-DO NOT be annoying and bouncy, just genuine, friendly and calm. Don't give everything away, keep a little intrigue.
-Take a deep breath and HAVE A HECK OF A GOOD TIME!

I was watching the show here in the US tonight and remembered this thread. I was wondering how the interview went Pauline. It looks like it would be a fun show to be on.

I think the show is filmed in Bristol, we had letters round at the University to see if any of us wanted to go along and be part of the audience. If you get through, let me know and I'll come along and support you if I can :)
