Thanks Muckpond (what's a muckpond?)
Will it someday be a feature accessible by all members? Might be useful when sometimes we wish to get opinions by means of YES/NO only, or when we limit the answer choices to a few options... and get a percentage or summary of the vote in the thread itself. I have seen it on other forums and I think it might be a useful feature.
p/s: Can I post this at the website suggestion thread? or I cant cross-post?
Thank you.

That's a good question.
Personally, I would like to see it happen. I believe there is a bit of coding involved (it would be quite a change to the create post interface). If such a feature would be offered to the community as a whole, it would almost certainly be set up so that community polls would appear within the forums, and not on the front page like Admin polls do. We'd have to hash out several details, such as whether to allow polls in thread replies or just in the first post, whether to allow more than one poll in a thread, and whether or how to tie it into the edit post feature.

Thanks for moving the thread, Terry!
1. AGREE, polls should appear in the forums, not on front page
2. Allow only 1 poll per thread
3. Dont allow polls in thread replies
4. Allow polls only in first post
Those above are just my humble personal opinion. But I still would hope to see a voting/poll system set up for users who needs it. It would be highly useful in many way. Thanks.
TooCool, I saw that thread. There are a few weaknesses as you might be able to see already, such as:
1. results of poll isnt summarized
2. results of poll isnt shown in front of thread
3. extra "options" were thrown in (I'm guilty as charged :p)
But thanks for the link. I know what you were pointing to. |

Don't you just have to cut and paste existing PHP code to allow polls? |

Poll:
Do you think the ability to create simple polls in the forums will be useful?:
1. YES
2. NO

We've got trolls, might as well have polls.

Sure why not. I wouldn't want to see regular users be able to create polls on the front page (might get cluttered with somewhat trivial stuff), but this would be a great feature in the forums. It would make certain discussions much easier to read if the general opinion was just displayed somewhere rather than having to read through a bunch of posts to see what each person thinks. Maybe if the poll were displayed at the top so you could get the general opinion idea and then the posts below it so you could read further if you wanted to know why people voted one way or another. |

Yes, especially when a thread grows to a number of pages long, having a summarized poll results on the top of the page is highly useful. Lets keep our ringers crossed and hope the admins can hear us! :) |

I'm guessing (just a personal guess, nothing official) that if this feature were implemented, it would be a members only thing. |

Not quite. The current code for designing polls is not suitable to be made widely accessible, primarily due to usability and security issues. It would have to be rewritten.

bump - still keeping fingers crossed that this would be implemented someday for the forums. It would be a very useful addition to the site. |
