Thanks for the ribbon. It's my second :-) and i' very glad upon coming back from vacation with this shot and i got a ribbon from it. This is in my country, Philippines. And i am very proud to have such rich, beautiful places like this. This was taken in one of the villages in Banaue, Ifugao. My husband and i had our week long vacation here. This is one of our pride the Banaue Rice Terraces.
Banaue, one of the 11 towns of the province of Ifugao, derived its name from Banawol, a night bird that used to dwell in the area. Nestled in the hinterlands of the Cordillera Mountains, 333 kilometers north of Manila, it has an estimated expanse of 400 square miles of rice paddies or terraces that appear like a stairway to the sky. In December 1995, the World Heritage List of UNESCO listed the Ifugao Rice Terraces ΓΆ€“ covering 20,000 hectares that span the towns of Banaue, Hungduan, Mayoyao and Kiangan ΓΆ€“ as the first living cultural landscape, having been hand-carved by the native Ifugao tribe some 2,000 years ago. Streams and springs found in the mountains were ingenuously tapped and channeled into irrigation canals that run downhill through the rice terraces. The Banaue Rice Terraces dubbed the Eighth Wonder of the World, the grandest man-made monument of antiquity NOT made by slaves. It is believed that its length, if connected end to end would encircle half the globe.
I would be glad if someday you can visit my country to see such beautiful places like this. And if you need information about my country i would be very willing to share it with you. You can visit more of this photos at //photos.yahoo.com/gigipaler
