So I went golfing on sunday morning out in Canmore, which is a beautiful little mountain town just outside of Banff, Alberta. Our tee-off time was scheduled for 7:40 am, which meant I had to leave Calgary at around 5:30am.
I was a little perturbed when I got to the first tee to find 4 groups backed up in front of us. No one had teed off yet for the day.
I stomped over to the Marshall to voice my opinion of their treatment of golfers who are paying $155 per round. All he did was look down the fairway, giving me one of those little "look over there, dumbass" head gestures. Then I saw her. One big mean lookin' mamma of a Grizzly Bear.
Fish and Wildlife Officers arrived shortly thereafter to scare her back up the mountain with a variety of fireworks, flash/bangs, flares, etc. They almost had to clear the course as she wasn't cooperating.
Everyone else was fearful for their well-being.

Me? I just wanted a picture.

I kept dropping food hoping she'd come back, but no luck. K I'm kidding about that part, but would that not have been a kick-butt "B" submission? never did get anything more than a bear butt (not bare butt) dodging back into the trees.

Starting on this hole, and for about the 6 subsequent holes, we were accompanied by guys with guns. That's a first for me on a golf course. Maybe while golfing in Nicaragua or something, but Canada? Just a few of the many treasures of this great country of ours: Golf, Bears, Guns, and or course...beer, which was complimentary due to the delay :)

I only attached the link so you can see how beautiful this course is. i didn't take the pic or anything. I did get both my speed and B submission that day, but none were as good as that would have been.

Anyway, that's my story. good luck to all tonight, and Happy Canada Day, Happy early 4th of July, and Happy late Earth Day.

Oh yeah, and on behalf of all of Western Canada (and I would suspect much of Eastern Canada, too) I would like to apologize for Jean Chretien's pathetic display of support for the US through the last couple of years. The real Canadians are behind you.

Peace,

Pedro

*edit. p.s. i didn't make up the name of the 9th hole...it really is called Bear's Den.

As a true Western Canadian, I can state without fear of hesitation that only a small minority of Canadians with little or no self esteem (and most of them in Alberta which just slathers like a needy baby over becoming the 51st State) agree with Pedro. This has been one very proud year when Canada stood up for itself and made its own foreign policy for a change. Bravo for Canada! Happy Canada Day all!!

P.S. No anti-Americanism here, just pride in being Canadian and nothing else.

Hey jak, a pretty clear indication of someone with low self-esteem is the need to stoop to name calling. The beautiful thing about this country of ours is that we're each entitled to our opinion. Even if you happen to disagree with it.

While in person I would vehemently disagree with you that it's a small minority that agrees with me, here I won't. This is a photography website. I mistakenly opened the door by making a political comment here; for that, I apologize (to the rest of the site, not you in particular). Now you may go back to your perfectly-shaped jak world, where there are nothing but hearts and flowers and people who agree with you.

An opinion and an A**hole...we're each entitled to one.

Again, to the rest of you - sorry.

Hey, did you hear the one about the blind photographer?

PS - Canada is also filled with self-righteous baby boomers who can dish it but can't take it...

I know you can't mean me, cuz I'm too young to be a baby boomer.

So this horse walks into a bar, and the bartender asks: "Why the long face?"

it was a good story about the bear. let's stick with that.

Nope, didn't mean you. And yes, let's leave it. Another Canada vs. US rant is SO not needed here...
