Title: 20 seconds after High Speed (100 MPH+)

I submitted this at first, but decided to go for another picture instead. While vaguely amusing, I don't think this thing would have done very well, somehow...

LOL - yeah that's a great pic.
Hope you didn't ruin a mini just to get a photo?

I think you made the right decision not to use it in the end though as the amount of "conveying the image or illusion of speed" I get from this is about 0.0kph :)

My mini smokes a little sometimes, but never this bad ;)

I am a licenced pyrotechnician, which should explain a few things. The smoke you see comes from a special powder mixture I made today. all the smoke on the picture comes from a small capsule approximately the size of a coke bottle top. The capsule itself is placed inside a metal tin and placed on top of my left front wheel - with a short length of tubing to lead the majority of the smoke into my engine compartment via the side airduct.

Pyro is fun.

(well, it looks like I might as well have submitted this one - it would probably have done better than the one I did submit *sob*)

So far I'm vaguely disspointed with the Speed challenge submissions, this would have earned at least an 8 from me ...

Good shot ;)

in light of the lack of competition from the poor entries, I would have given a 7 (though normally maybe 5-6)

Bloody typical! This time I meet the challenge head-on instead of trying to be clever, and you all start giving higher marks to the kind of shots I've been suffering with. I can't win! lol.

Its really not that. I saw 5 problems with this challenge:

1. I started a thread right after SPEED was announced ... which meant to ridicule an overused cliché: long exposure night shots. Apparently a few people completely missed the point ;)

2. Some people thought that SPEED = BLUR, so I had real hard time making out what was actually portrayed in the photo.

3. I know I may not have been thinking creatively or may be I just don't have the imagination, but some shots just didn't convey the feeling of speed. This seems to happen with every challenge ... people submitting whatever shot, but still.

4. Speed = Slower Shutter speed + Panning NOT 1/1250 STOP ACTION.

5. There is always a flower shot.

My shot, IMHO, conveys the feeling/sensation of speed ... if you look at it - you'll feel a little dizzy. Got 3 great comments on it so far ... but a dismall score of 4.7xx ... what gives?

c'mon people, you've got to leave SOME feedback

i would have given it a 2 - so just as well u did not submit it. It does not convey the illusion or feeling of speed in any way whatsoever.
How any of you could give it a 7 or an 8 just baffles me.

Don't hold back, chinstrap! Tell it the way it is!

But I kind of anticipated that sort of response, so that is why I didn't submit it.

I would have been in the 7 or 8 crowd. It screams "speed" to me. I am baffled that people think it has to be a slow shutter speed panning shot to be related to speed.

I've driven a car that smoked when I went fast - I know how it is, and it means speed. People, loosen up on the challenge!!! We're all so uptight around here.

^^^ Why I didn't submit to this one.
