Okay before I could just plug my camera into the computer- usb cable into port on the console. A window would with different options- download, burn to cd, ect. Well now that's not popping up. I can't figure out why. A different window pops up saying removable disk- basically saying the usb port is a removable disk. Anyone else had this problem? I downloaded pics two days ago without a problem, and now it won't work. UGH! |

Is there more than one port you can plug into?
I have a similar problem when I plug into the bottom port on my 'puter, but if I use the top one it works fine. |

I have 3 usb ports and tried all of them, none worked.
It's rather strange considering nothings been done to the computer and it worked 2 days ago lol.

If u plug your USB cable into your pc, check My Computer and see if their's a new storage disk. If so right click that and load your images that way.
If u have software from your Camera to view your images/load try that aswell.
The comon thing for this bug is that your USB is not USB 2.0
U can replace it ofcourse..
Goodluck

well I have the program that came with the camera, but I uninstalled it because it was easier to load the pics through the usb and the windows program. More user friendly.
I'll try what you said and see what happens. Thanks! |

Well, I don't know what could be causing this. Can you still get to your pics though?
Might have to go through 'My Computer' or 'File Manager' and move the files from the 'removable disk' to your destination file. Kind of a pain, but at least you'd have your pics.
Have you run any systems checks lately? Or defragged lately? Checked the batteries in the camera? Reformatted your memory card? (I don't know - just grasping at straws!)
Also, what operating system are you running? I may not be able to help very much, but the more info you can let us have, the more likely someone is going to be able to help...
*edit - too slow sometimes! :)

you can always get a card reader and transfer them off the card using that.

I'm using windows XP
I have no reformatted the CF lately.
I ran a norton scan and spysweeper can 4 days ago.
I suppose I could just install the olympus program and do it that way.
It's just bizarre that it's not working now.
oh and I can not get to my pics. I a page opens up with all of them listed and I try to open them but it won't let me.

If I connect my camera via USB I never get a pop-up window options- download, burn to cd, ect.
I'm useing XP aswell, my Camera program takes the upperhand it seems.
But I can load my images also via My Computer, right-click your removable-disk and hit load images.

Try clicking on My Computer. Then click on the 'Removable Disk Drive' that looks like the one the camera is plugged into.(i.e. Removeable Disk G:\____) If you are running Xp you should have a row of menus along the left side. There may be on that says Picture Tasks. Click on Get Pictures from Scanner or Camera. This also has other options that you were looking for (copy to CD, etc) There is a way to change this default but I have to think about it. By any chance on that pop-up window did you choose 'Always use this program'? If so that is why the window is not coming up anymore. |

no I did not choose that option.
And I tried to do just as you said but there is nothing on the side saying anything about uploading pictures or anything like that. Now a new removeable disk does show up once the camera is plugged in and I did click on that. but nothing comes up about pictures.
I think I'm just going to install the olympus software again and go from there. Thank you all for the help. I'll be back later. |

not to ask a stupid question....but after clicking on the Removable disk are you turning the camera on? When I first got my camera I kept forgetting to do that.
2 other thoughts...My Computer, then Control Panel, Scanner and Camera, again should have something about Picture Tasks.
Or, you can run a System Restore and set the computer back to where it was working (or last update) This does not lose any files but if you have installed a program between that time it will need to be reinstalled. |

Sometimes it seems XP decides to choose "Always use this program" by itself. Right click on the removeable drive, select the properties item, and select the autoplay tab. In the drop down box select "Pictures". Make sure that either "prompt me each time to choose an action" is selected, or that the correct action is selected. Also check the other options in the drop down box, especially "mixed media". |
