Sorry for the lame subject. :P

Ok, so I am finally going to get a calibrator after years of print and check; repeat.

My friend at Calumet suggested the MonacoEZcolor ($199) because it comes with a free softare upgrade to the Pro version. Does anybody have any experience with this company? //www.xritephoto.com/product/news/ezcolor.asp Apparently they've won tons of awards, but all I've heard about is this Spyder.

Please advise!

Xrite/Monaco is owned by Mamiya and came highly recommneded to me by the other photographers on another forum. Very accurate profiles produced with their DTP94 sensor and software. Supposed to be the most accurate of the three major sensors produced between Monaco, ColorVision (Spyder 2), and Gretag MacBeth by EyeOne.

I can tell you firsthand that their software is very easy to use and I've had very good results, though I haven't done a lot of printing. To get the best and most accurate results, though, you need to have your entire workflow profiled, especially printers. I would not recommend getting purchasing printer profiling software that uses scans as these are not the best profiles produced as the scanners themselves have to be profiled. Instead, you can use the profiles that come with your printer for a given paper and set of inks, or you can purchase custom made printer profiles from web sites, such as: CathysProfiles.com. Many people are very happy with their results using Cathy's. Also, you can freely download printer profiles from printing paper manufacturers, such as, Ilford, InkPress and Epson, but be advised, that these profiles are only for use with very high end printers.

Honestly, if you are not a professional expecting very accurate results (probably results that would be only discernable to highly trained people), I don't think you can go wrong with any of these companies.
