Basically I'm after something with a nice zoom and quick autofocus.
I've been told that the Canon Pro1 fits this nieche but I was just wondering if there's anything else out there which will suit me also.
Thanks. |

Might help to say how much zoom, how many megapixels, and price range.
There are a number of cameras out there...

Zoom I was thinking of 7x+
Mega Pixels I'm not that worried about, I'm shooting at 3 at the moment and getting some very nice results, so anything would be a bonus really. |

I personally like the Olympus 8080, it seems to respond almost as quickly as my 10D and takes really great pics. It does not have that powerful of a zoom tho.

There are a lot of people that seem quite happy with the Panasonic FZ 20's and 30's.
I'd take a look at them...
And I'd watch out very carefully on anything from Fuji who seem to be having too many problems lately.

I dont think the Pro 1 can really be called a compact. More like a full-blown prosumer. Look at the comment made by this photogapher. It may give you some pointers:

Let me fix this link for you - some people ( like ME!!) are too lazy to go through the process...... we want things clickable!

The canon G6 is smaller then the Pro 1 and the max aperture larger. It is only 7.1Mp, but I think I will get one soon for "candid" walk around.
