I'm going crazy with just a work lamp and the on-board flash on my d100. It's not enough for portraits (obviouisly).

I'm looking at either the sb600 or sb800 from nikon for a flash unit for when I'm out-and-about but I'm also considering a set like this (alien bees - 'digi bee' setup) for those opportunities affording a bit more time for setup.

What do I need to make the Alien Bees setup work with my camera. The D100 does not have a sync port so does this mean that I need to purchase one of the hot-sync/ adapters?

Anything else I need to keep in mind?

Nikon makes one I can't remember the name of it it's like an AS-15 or something crazy...It's only like $15-$20

AB also makes a hot-shoe adapter, just click on their site, it's basically the same...then you hotwire that into one of the bee's, and the other bee will flash off the other one when it senses it.

Anyway, the 400's are strong enough for any small or medium sized studio...and if you move up in the world, they're great for lighting the backdrop or a hair light, etc...so they won't go to waste.

Either way though the 800's are just $55 more...something to consider.

As far as a speedlight, definately get either the sb600 or sb800 -- as they are the newest, and will work best if you upgrade technology to a d70/d70s/d200/d2x, etc...and can be controlled remotely then or with a su-800 (to be released in late Dec.) that will work with your d100, or with a sb800 on your hotshoe and another 800/600 or more then you can fire them remotely too...

good luck...there's tons of info out there on the web on both of these items...do a google search.
