I know you didn't just offer what I think you offered. How far from Pittsburgh are you, cause we could make that happen if you really want. |
Uh, oh! That's not so funny. Deapee, take a deep breath, count to 10 (or 20, or 30, whatever), get away fromt he 'puter for a little ....

Good advice for all of us. Try something new. I fear that Joey has achieved so much acclaim with his grunge that he is getting "pigeonholed" as more of photoshopper than a photographer. He should not be expected to have editing-induced WoW in every image he puts up here. If he becomes addicted to excessive editing he'll take a lot of his followers down that road too. Don't put too much responsibility on the young man, let him develope on his own without having to live up to the oh so fickle whims of dpc voters.

If you want to develop a style that has never be seen before and then profit off of it, go right ahead. But where do you get the audacity to tell someone else not to share what they choose to?! That would be like telling graphicfunk to censor his amazing setup/lighting/composition explanations, or pedro to not write his dodge/burn tutorial, or essentially spitting on the entire concept of the DPC Mentorship that was running on here.
I'm grateful that people like them are on this site to help us, the newbies, grow from their experience. I'm also sorta grateful that you're on here also, because I always get a kick out of reading your angry posts. Lol. |
awesome...I wasn't telling him to keep it a secret, it's not like you guys are making it sound to be.
I merely suggested that he tone it down a bit and share it with a few select individuals. I repeat, again, that I was only intending to not try and start an uproar of 'draganized' images here on DPC...I personally felt that it was best for 99% of the people that they looked into photography more than post-processing. I am entitled to my view, I did what I did, and I will not take it back or say I'm sorry for it. I still feel the same way. I think that if people spent the time they spent learning to post-process on lighting, composition, white balance, they would be much better photographers in the long-run.
Look, Andrzej Dragan has a skill...but long before he had that skill, he was a successful photographer. You don't just pick up a camera, take a picture, and run a little photoshop action on it and become a great photographer or win challenges.
Furthermore, obviously Joey has some skill...both photographically and in post-processing. My whole point is that like 95% of the people that are spending so much time on this are going to get caught in a loop and it will be hard to break out of...when their time could be much better spent by practicing general photography.

Joey is pretty cool for such a young man. He's not only good at photoshopping, but he's got a really good eye also. No matter how much PS work, you gotta start with a good picture or it will show.

You're right, I'll PM him right away... to ask what type of curry he's cooking, and if there's enough for two!
David, take a look back across this thread. You've once again disrupted someone's discussion to the point where the thread has become useless. If this is how you intend to comport yourself here, please don't be surprised if you receive a frigid reception, or are the recipient of pointed remarks. Although I don't condone retaliatory behavior, I have little (or no) sympathy for you when you are the recipient of it.
I've repeatedly tried to advise you to walk away from confrontations, but you must really NEED, on some level, to confront people. I have three words for you... anger management counseling.

That was meant as a joke...as in me saying I don't understand what he is talking about. I do not know what a ticket is or how that involved taking it offline. The only thing I can imagine it being is him asking me to fight, but I know that's definately not it.

Hey man, it's cool. DPC is a free market. Once people get sick of something, they will start voting it down. You can already start doing that now and wait for everyone else to catch up.
But I don't think there has been a single image that made top 50 in any challenge that did not display skilled elements of lighting, composition, and technique - regardless of PP. |

Getting back to the original post in this long and winding thread I think Shawn was looking for opinions on his shot and the processing.
Any takers :))
edited to say ....don't worry. Thanks to Terry, this's been moved and the original thread restarted.

FWIW - I think some people here like goading the "trolls" (not that I consider you a neccssarily a troll, deapee) as much as trolls like to rant about stuff. Considering how people complain about direct offensive/combative behavior, you'd think that they would pay attention to their underhanded passive-agressive comments also. Neither are appropriate discourse, nor do they serve to foment more high-minded discussions.

Is this directed at me? It wasn't my intent to goad at all, was just trying to make deapee laugh. Someone else posted that astrology site in the forums here and I liked the bit about boiling inner nature. And I seem to recall that Deapee and I have the same birthday. I can definitely play the passive-agressive bit but that wasn't it.

well, since they moved it to rant and the original is restarted, I guess I'll keep going.
I must agree...I am not the only one responsible...although I will take some amount of the responsibility for how the thread 'turned out' -- not that I think that it turning into what it did is a bad thing, but I'm just saying.

Intimidation is where you tell him not to share something, and berate him repeatedly once he does so. Within the limits of the Terms of Service and our forum policies, he has the right to share anything he wants.
I've also removed the comment you referenced above. You are correct that it wasn't appropriate.
Why didn't you report it at the time the comment was made?

I did report it dude...I know for 100% sure I did, and I've made it a point in the forums before when he was swearing and called me a name.
I look at intimidation as in saying "don't tell anyone or I'm going to..." -- that wasn't what I said, I merely made a suggestion. Can we stop beating a dead horse now?

I state my opinion. If someone doesn't like it, they respond, and make it necessary for me to respond further with what they say...so I respond, then about 5 people will jump on the bandwagon...and that's not entirely my fault.

Not to mention, it's not like y ou're trying to make it sound...I'm not running around finding posts and turning them into rants singlehandedly, you have to admit that.
99% of the time that I offend someone, it is provoked in one way or another by a person or a group of people, you cannot say that I do this all myself...personally, I find that offensive.
