Starting a new thread so that people can discuss the new stats on Threads Created and Threads Killed to replace the thread that deteriorated and got locked.

What do you think about this new feature of dpc? A) Love it? B) Hate it? or C) it's OK but I could live without it?

Personally, I don't like to appear unappreciative of the work our admins put into improving the site but feel there are other things that would be more beneficial to the community. So I'm a C. But I reserve the option to move to the B camp if the silliness and bickering don't die out pretty soon.

How do you feel about the new stats?

Please take no offense coolhar - I'm voting with my heart however.

D) Sick of threads about thread stats.

I had a list of things I'd like updated and to be honest, this isn't on it. Who knows though - why provide a better experience or a DPCPrints2? Why bother right?

E)Feel like a few people will ruin it for the rest but wouldn't cry if they were gone anyway.

some things are just funny little perks that are easy to add, like stats, while other, larger projects are still being worked on on an "ad hoc" basis by people who have full time paying jobs and do this stuff out of interest and not because they get paid the big bucks to do it.

That said, I'm not the keenest on the new stats, but if they're fun for folks, they aren't really a bother otherwise! So long as the site isn't being manipulated to affect those stats because we have all recognized they are silly/fun and not of any true use or value.

I'd be curious to know how they determine a "killed" thread. I've seen some threads here which span several months and are brought back to life every once in awhile. How long does a thread have to be dormant in order to be killed?

Just curious. I could care less about the stats one way or another.

this is stupid...who really cares? There is a reason that SIX threads on this same exact topic got locked in the past week. get over it

C

I'd agree with mav. Not discounting their efforts but there have been a lot of requests made and it seems strange to me that this would be implemented before the things that would (for lack of better word) matter to the users.

As a suggestion, maybe make a poll with 10 or so popular site requests and let everyone vote for them. Then implement them in the order that the users have expressed interest in them.

How about a stat that records:
* avg times/challenge hit the update button
* amount of unique visits to the site
* avg time watched pics with a nudity warning

Whatever.

my two cents, could have wasted time coding in more usefull fluff than this.
11/25/2005 08:16:41 PM · #12
how about a stat "average time photo viewed before vote"

Imo, and not picking on anyone, stats are fun, but there are other things that would make DPC more user friendly...like batch editing in our portfolios to name one.

Personally, I don't like the new stats very much. I think they only serve to make people feel awkward about posting to threads (because they don't want to kill another thread) or starting threads.

If you start too many threads others might think you are too vocal and the threads killed stat only serves to make you feel that you are unpopular and so icky that no one wants to reply after you.

Both of them only seem to make people feel bad about themselves and many people here get enough of that with the low scores that are given out.

This site should be about photography, not a lot of meaningless stats that only serve to make people feel hurt or somehow superior because they don't kill as many threads.

Another thought - there seems to be enough forming of "cliques" here at DPC already - do we really need something else to cause even more formation of various cliques of people.

My opinion, for what it's worth.
