Why are a copyright not allowed on the photos? I would be afraid it being too easy to 'Save As' on the photos and have someone copy them. I see where some people post "print available". However DPChallenge does nothing on the webpage to prevent it from being taken??

To avoid "Rule Bending". Copyright text/logo is basically addition to the photo, which is a nono. Somebody could use some (C) symbol to hide something, who knows?
Keep it as simple as possible, but not simpler.

On portfolio images, copyright statements may be added if you wish -- but challenges are suppose to be anonymous. A copyright statement on a challenge entry would tell the voters who submitted it.

As for not doing anything to prevent the image from being downloaded -- there is nothing effective that can be done, without also preventing the image from being viewed by others. In short, there is no way to publicly display an image without also making it publicly available.

actually there is.....there is a script that can be written in to the image when uploaded on the website that will prevent it from being right clicked on.

Legally, you have a copyright on every picture you take, even if you don't mark the image with a copyright notice. If you actually put a copyright notice on your picture, it would identify you as the photographer during the contest.

There is nothing possible to prevent anyone from actually copying your picture, with or without the notice. By registering here, you do give the site the right to transmit your images to others. Otherwise there would be no way anyone could see the images they are voting on! There is no protection mechanism possible. ON the other hand, the images here are much lower resolution than the cameras actually take, so you aren't really releasing the good stuff.

Anything that appears on your display can be captured. Also, any images are in your browser's cache and can be copied from there. The right-click blocking does nothing.

That makes it maybe one step harder to take your photo. It's still completely possible and really only serves to be highly annoying for other right-click uses. Search the forums a bit, this has been discussed a number of times.

all the right click disable is slow down (like a couple of extra clicks)those that are determined to take the picture. it doesn't stop them.

The print screen button on the keyboard will do the job though, so there really is no way of preventing copying an image.

but I guess if no one is worried...I'm making a deal out of nothing...Just was curious. My photos are not 'winning quality' but I think I would be reluctant to post a 'winner'.

A small copyright at the bottom doesn't prevent anyone from taking a picture either, it would be about 30 seconds of photoshop to get rid of the copyright statement. Unless you put the copyright statement on the complicated focal point of your image.... but who would put a copyright statement across the subjects face to prevent image theft?

"No text may be added to your submission. This includes copyright statements."
That sentence appears in both the Basic and Advanced rules.

You don't need a copyright mark in your image because it is covered by the statement "All digital photo copyrights belong to the photographers and may not be used without permission." which appears at the bottom of every page on this website.
