"Threads Created" and "Threads Killed" will be the death of DPChallenge.

I just foresee a wealth of posts as a chance for people to start and respond to an array of stupid topics in an attempt to increase an otherwise useless statistic.

oh wow, did not notice that little statistic till now!

yeah when it comes to killing threads i am like a serial murderer

I wholeheartedly agree, although "death of DPC" might be a little strong, it'll certainly water the forums down more than they already are, and it's already begun.

Honestly.. an "are you hot or not" thread? That's stuff you expect to see on some 15 year old's livejournal.

Now, more than ever, I am inching over to jmsetzler's opinion that all forum topics be given an option to ignore, instead of just individual threads.

Insanity. Who *honestly* cares how many threads you were the last poster on? And starting them? Wasn't just knowing how many posts one makes enough? Who cares if someone is a leader in forum activity if 300 threads are "Look at me, I can start a thread about nothing."

*throws his hands up in the air*

I guess it's all a part of change and evolution... or, sorry, intelligent design (although I'm missing the intelligence of this particular stat)

OK maybe not the death of DPC but I would be interested in another stat.

Active members before the Threads Started/Killed stats was created

and

Active members after the Threads Started/killed stats was created

...speaking of which, there's already a thread discussing this new feature and its implications here. ;-)

This thread is now unlocked because the two discussions are not parallel and this is a rant which is fundamentally different than other discussions in other parts of the site.

That thread is more a bubblegum discussion about people comparing stats and wondering why there are so many thread IDs, and such.. Bringing a conversation like this to it wouldn't be in the spirit of the thread, and really, belongs here in rant no? Jason should be applauded for not trying to stir shit up in an already established thread, and instead voicing concerns in a proper area.

I think the stat is an interesting one to see, but I am concerned it will cause a lot of starts and ends to useless threads just to see how stats can be changed. Its not insignificant to consider what the impact would be.

I agree that thread does not discuss the implications of the new feature, at least not seriously.

On another note, I think it should be an optional feature if you want to display your threads created/destroyed stats. It seems like it was only put in because some people wanted to play games and is of no real use because it does not even link to the threads the person has started/killed.

I think the threads killed totals are a negative change to the site.

I disagree....

End of discussion!

;)

i have to agree that i can't see the purpose of having those stats. i would much rather think that any new features implemented would actually be of use...like a convenient way to navigate portfolios.

Man, do I second *that* suggestion

just lock the thread already, but don't respond...there's no need to respond every time you lock a thread...just lock it, it will be apparent that it's been locked.

Do you have a problem with this thread? if so, please use the "report post" button available to all users. If not, I don't see the point of you continually asking IN THE THREAD that it be locked without response or that all users stop responding. If you are trying to 'pad' meaningless statistics or be funny, I'm afraid your humour is lost on me.

Goodness, calm down AND DONT SHOUT AT ME!

i raised my voice for 3 words. I was not then, nor am I now shouting and I'm perfectly calm. Have you anything else you'd like to add to this thread?

No, nothing at all, have you anything else you would LIKE TO ADD to this thread? You, as a site council member, should think about keeping your personal problems to a private message level...nice work, great for the community.

Please advise where you find I have put my "personal" problems here.

Well apparently, I upset you, and you felt the need to call me out, personally, three times now in this thread alone. It's like we are having a personal discussion between the two of us -- and that's not going to look too professional to anyone anywhere...it's not like we're talking about flowers and sunshine...you're upset, and that is why you shouted.
