Well, I was at my son's kindergarten yesterday taking photos of their Thanksgiving "feast", and while packing up and getting him together my open backpack fell 3 feet off the counter it was on landing upsdide down on the camera. My heart sank, and then even more when I looked at the camera. The lcd is cracked and doesn't work, but I was relieved that it still takes photos, and even more relieved that my attached 70-200IS was ok.

Anyways, has anybody else had to replace a lcd display? How much does Canon usually charge for that? I have 2 weeks left on my warrenty, too bad it wont' cover it. I'd rather just get a new one but that's not possible right now, maybe next tax refund. Thanks for any advice.

Canon usually charges about $900.00 for this. Your camera is basically worthless now. I'll take it off your hands for $100 and youc an use that towards a new one, OK? jejejeĆ¢„Ā¢

Sorry to just get back now Robert, but very funny. Heck, $100 sounds pretty good right about now. I hope you were kidding about the $900. I know it'll be steep, but hopefully not that much. This sucks! I might have to wait a few months until tax return time to get something else.

That's abuse, I tell ya! I'm going to turn you in. I think I have a nice foster home for your camera and IS lens.

So, the question is...you didn't swear in front of all those sweet children, did you? ;-)

Sorry about your cam!

Buy the wifi add-on and have it tethered wirelessly to your laptop.

Ha! Suprisingly not. There were other parents/teachers around. I just nonchalantly packed up what dignity I had left, grabbed the kid, and went home to assess the damage.

That would be a really nice alternative, I don't think the wife would go for it at that price though. :-(
