| I'm getting my soon to be 5 year old the Nintendo DS Mario Kart bundle for his birthday. I thought about the PSP, but he's only going to be 5 and that's a little too much system for a 5 y/o. Anyways, I was wondering if other people got one for their kids (or themselves) what case/acessories do you like for the system, and other games to get as well? Thanks for the input. |

We just found a little backpack case that we really like. We found it at Walmart, and I think it is actually made by Nintendo. Here at the Navy Exchange, we found a little handgrip thing that snaps onto the bottom of the system which makes it MUCH easier to hold and play. (it makes it feel more like a standard nintendo controller vs a gameboy) Be sure you get a screen protector for the bottom screen. They are little clear plastic film things. Since you use the stylus on them, they are prone to getting messed up.
I love the Mario Kart game. It has enough to do on it to keep a 5 year old (or a 27yr old..lol) busy for some time :)

mario kart is unbeatable in playablity and fun factor (and in regard to children, stress free innocent factor). I have the PSP and it great, but honestly I don't play it that much. So the DS should be great for the younglings to keep occupied and enhance hand eye coordination. No real recommendations, but positive affirmation on gift.

| All of our kids got DS last year and to this day they are all still hooked on them. Mario Kart is a must have!! There is a new Wario that they are all asking for this year, you might want to check it out. |

| We have 2 x Playstation 2's in our house as well as a Playstation 1 in my youngest sons room. The 3 eldest children have computers networks to the internet in their bedrooms. Needless to say one of them asked for a PSP for Xmas. I think Santa has to draw a line somewhere. They have Gameboy Colours which they never use anymore and I fear it'll just become something else to pile up at the next garage sale! |

I hope that the DS isn't a little too large for a 5 year old. I had one briefly, and the thing was just so bulky and unweildy, I took it back.
The Gameboy Advance SP might be a better choice, if you go the handheld gaming route. |

Actually, I have just bought a Psp + 1 Gig MStick + 4 games for myself :p
I had fun with it for a while but I just realized that I spend 500 euros + on that console, which is 1/3 of a D200 (Now I miss 1/3 to buy it :().
Don't get me wrong it's a great console, amazing graphics, amazing games, but well, I might be too old for that kind of thing (oh my god, I never thought I'd say that one day !!!). Anyway, I think I'm gonna sell the whole package on ebay now. If anyone is interrested by the way :p
The Ds is a nice console but the dual screen thing is a bit confusing ! I still wonder how you can use the pen for the touch screen and at the same time use the controls on the console ? Anyway, that's only my point. |
