"Ring out, wild bells,"
-Christmas Poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892)

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light;
The year is dying in the night.
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

Ring out the grief that saps the mind,
For those that here we see no more,
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.

Ring out the want, the care the sin,
The faithless coldness of the times;
Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes,
But ring the fuller minstrel in.

Ring out false pride in place and blood,
The civic slander and the spite;
Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.

Ring out old shapes of foul disease,
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.

Ring in the valiant man and free,
The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Ring out the darkness of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.

I gave this one a shot.

Once I reached for cobalt heavens.
Stretching upwards to the sky.

I drank the rain and shrugged the wind,
and sheltered birds too weak to fly.

When heavy snow would take a branch,
two more I̢۪d grow, to fill it̢۪s place.

I shed my foliage every Fall,
and started fresh with Spring̢۪s embrace.

The years have passed with rings to tell.
My sap of life has since run dry.

My branches, reaching for the heavens,
no longer wave to the cobalt sky.

Passion

My love, emerging from the mud,
still smolders with unearthly flame,
a spirit so intense that I,
beside her, seem completely tame.

And yet, I burn just as she does,
the only difference being this:
her flagrant eyes will kindle me,
while she ignites each time we kiss...

Oh, it is glorious indeed,
the way we burn because we must:
the paths two lovers take to joy
when they spark steel and flint to lust!

I'm very flattered (and surprised) by the responses to that poem.

Thanks Justin!
I see you beat me to it.

Robert,
I'm PMing you in a moment.

Jeff,
In response to you request for another...
I'll see what I can do. No promises though. I may be a one-hit-wonder.

David,
Loosing a love one seems almost more than we can bear but we carry their loving memories in our minds and hearts forever. Time carries us all forward and someday we will all be reunited.

Take Care,

Times Embrace

Time stands still in this awful
place, as I await illness to take
you from me.

I look upon your face and
see your life spread before me.
It̢۪s an open book, I see.

The tiny lines of worry
show. A life spent caring
for those you know.

The lines about your mouth,
past pleasure shows. Smiles
of yesterdays froze.

Upon your weathered skin I
look. I see sun and wind along
with the toll many winters took.

Time and sickness cannot steal
your beauty. I think my heart
will burst from love of you, but
It only grows.

A bulky, dusty, out of tune
wooden box on legs
lingers in our family room,
and cringes in dismay.

When Grandma passed, a somber hymn
accompanied her ascent.
When Dad proposed they gathered round
And sang for hours on end.

On holidays and lonely nights
the music ebbed and flowed.
The technician came twice a year
And tuning gifts bestowed.

Arthritis cursed, the crowds dispersed,
a quietness crept in.
The once adored was now ignored
when vinyl took a spin.

The stranger dwells in solitude
with little more to give,
than memories of better days
when we knew how to live.
