I was out on the bluffs above Nauset Marsh JUST before sunset, shooting east; this is a sunrise marsh, but those bluffs are the higest oceanfront land unbuilt-upon for miles around. I was up to the camera store getting the flash for the damned wedding, and since the timing was doable I drove the extra 5 miles or so and swung into action.
I was setting up with the 70-200 on the tripod when the two girls jogged by, so I snapped 'em. I never do that, ever :-) I wait for the people to move, LOL. I don't like people in my shots, not me... Anyhow, this image is straight from RAW, NO photoshop except a 15% bump in master saturation and sharpening after resize. I was amazed at the solidity and density of the light here. I thought I'd share, it pleases me.
Here's what I went there for, btw: I'm trying to ease my way into more muted light again as I've been gaudy all summer and winter is hovering near.
It was COLD, too. Getting close to freezing now. Thanks for looking :-)

Great shots, bear! I love the effects of the muted light giving everything a really soft, dreamy kind of quality. |

Very nice bear! The muted tones are very mellow and speak of winter, at least to me. Big change from some of your recent work, but still a pleasure to see. And I have to say, the one with the joggers looks almost posed, it's so well setup. Good thing you clicked it!

"But, officer, they just ran through the picture as I was taking it!"
"I don't want to hear about it, you perverted bastard! I'm taking you in!"
"Alright, but let me introduce you to Karma the WonderDog; she's a certified assistance dog and I'm legally entitled to take her anywhere I go. She eats Purina One Lamb & Rice Formula, just so you know."
I'll unleash the full wrath of the ADA on those Texas sheriffs!

"Sir, that dog has no ass. That is also a felony in Texas. You have the right to remain silent..." |

I would have to agree...well done on the quick thinking to take this shot in. Left you a comment.

Tsheets left the following comment on this image, that I wanted to elaborate on:
"Beautiful photo! The colors are interesting...there is so much going on. The lower/right water has much less of a color cast to it, then as you move left and deeper, the purple reflection becomes very prominent. Then very quickly, blue! The houses/buildings are grabbing onto the little bit of direct light and glowing. Even the smokestack in the distance..bright magenta/pink. Whew! A lot to take in just with the colors, nevermind the textures."
The interesting thing is that this is pretty much a straight shot, not photoshop manipulation, although I did add a neutral gradation at the top to burn in the top of the picture a little bit. But the colors were there. The sun was nearly at the horizon behing me and slightly to my right. If you looked directly up, the sky was blue. There was just enough moisture (?) in the air to cause some refraction and generate the magenta I guess.
The foreground water was completely smooth, glassy even, so the reflections there are actually of the magenta sky (reciprocal angle of reflection). The blue water in the background is flowing water in the channel and open ocean outside the bar, and it has waves/ripples. These are more vertical than the smooth surface of the foreground water, so the angle of reflection there has the waves reflecting the color of the blue sky above/behind me, basically.
Or that's what I think, anyway. It was very strange light. And a good example of what you can find sometimes if you turn back on the sunset and shoot away from it.
