Going out on a bit of a limb but here is a suggestion/idea
Could the site developers provide an upload API over XML-RPC so would write upload tools?
Just an idea

I believe the PHP XML-RPC modules are considered experimental at this time, and I expect the administrators would not roll them out on a production server until that changes.
It's also worth noting that the above modules were recently found to contain a remote code execution vulnerability that allows for privilege elevation. There at least one Linux worm in the wild that exploits this.
I expect that if such a feature would be rolled out at all, it would not be until that module stabilizes.

I just heard that from some PHP developers that I work with. :-(
Seems PHP's xml-rpc module is regularly compromised.
