I keep hearing lots about this "neat image" but don't understand what it is... |

I prefer Noise Ninja. More natural looking results than Neatimage.

Lots of people use the free version of Neat Image. It's limited in some ways but works pretty good for web sized images like challenge entries here at dpc. |

Yep. Also be warned that the free version saves lousy jpegs only good enough for images we post here.
Edit: You won't get these "plasticity" exercise images I'm getting ;)
