Just before I left for work this morning, the FedEx truck showed up with my new Canon 50mm 1.4 lens! I didn't even have time to open the box, as I was already running late. Now I've got to sit here in the office all day until I can go home and play with it! This is going to be one of those days where every minute feels like the long version of "Stairway To Heaven" :o(. Oh well, at least I can surf DPC until then, and think about all the portraits that await me. Oh yeah, and I entered my first challenge too! I have a feeling I'll be checking the voting quite regularly once it starts (tomorrow). I'm so glad I got back into photography, although I'm quickly discovering it's more addictive than crack (not that I would know from personal experience--I'm just guessing). Just thought I'd share my story for today.

Take care.

LOL! Fed-ex sure comes early there! UPS never shows up at my house until after 6pm! Fed ex is around noon.

Hey, it could be worse...
I have my whole new Alien Bees lighting set-up sitting in boxes in my office right now. The movers are coming Monday and we will not get our stuff in Guam until January! ;)

Yup, with a bad case of the shutter bug.

LOL! Believe me, I was tempted. As for FedEx, I had ordered overnight shipping on this (long story as to why--not my impatience, though), and evidently the place I bought it from does their overnight orders as "priority one", which is for morning delivery. I knew it was arriving today, but getting it that early before I even left for work was just a cruel way of torturing me! Oh well, at least I know for sure it arrived today. But compared to waiting for the 350D, or waiting until Jnauary(!) for your lights, I guess I don't have it so bad. I'm like a 5-year-old on Christmas Eve, and that's part of the fun...

Oh sure, spend too much money on camera gear AND skip work. My parents warned me when I was a kid to not hang around people who were a bad influence! LOL!

I was just thinking the same thing....except....go to the bathroom and stay in there for about 20 minutes....and then go to your supervisor and tell them that your stomach is acting up. :)

Don, the 50mm 1.4 is a really sweet lens. You're going to have a blast with it! I have it (and use it with my film camera - a Canon Elan II) and it's one of the best photographic purchases I ever made.

Happy shooting! :)

Happy shooting indeed!! I've been playing with it for about an hour now, and I REALLY like this lens! Here is a shot I took of my older son with just the overhead light and the computer monitor for lighting. I airbrushed out the garbage behind him, and here it is. Not bad for a quick snapshot! Being able to go down to 1.4 is amazing--I wish Canon made a zoom lens like this (that didn't cost as much as a decent car!).

Please leave comments! Both my son and I would enjoy reading them. Thanks!
