Caught this guy with my 300mm at about 10 meters away. The grey background is the roof of a house blurred by the lens.

Photoshop: Saturation, levels, curves, color burn, Sharpen.

If you have time, please comment on how I can improve my "zoom lens" shots.

Left a comment. Here is a bird shot (Merlin) using the flash extender I talked about. This was a very low light gray day.

Very Nice! Were they hand held?

I really like the color rendition Nikon has for earth tones like oranges, browns, rusts and tree bark.

Not sure about Ken's original post but the Merlin was 500mm using a monopod.

Odd time of the year to make butterfly pictures..... at least it is in Wisconsin at this time of the year, it is sleeting outside at the moment. I must have been thinking about summer, not wanting winter to come - so I was working on a butterfly today too.



I think your monarch is quite good. I am not very qualified to comment on zoom lenses, but I like your picture.
