will be here thursday! And I actually got a really good deal on it thanks to someone from here- I apologize I don't remember the individuals screename to thank them.
ANyhow, they had it on sale at Circuit City for 809. I had a gift card fo Best Buy and was told Best Buy would beat the competitors prices by 10%. We were down in NC this weekend and hopped into the Best Buy there just hoping they would have it in the store. They did not, but the Sales Manager was working in the camera dept. Told him about the camera. ended up getting it for 799. When all was said and done with tax, an ultraII 512MB CF card that he knocked 20 bucks off of, and the service plan for 99, it came out to exactly the amount of the gift card.
I'm going to buy another CF card before we fly home next month so I'll have 2. But I am soooooooooo excited. Took a ton of pics with my lil P&S this weekend, but nothing exciting. Mostly snapshots. Did get a really cute shot of a 3rd step cousin.
Anyhow, had to share me joy haha

So did you get the E300 or the E500? They seem really nice...I bought my girlfriend an E300 for Christmas (she already has it...I couldn't wait to give it to her).

I ordered the E-500.

The 3rd step cousin is only 15 months:oP

Here's a pic of him. I haven't done anything with it yet.

I got a really great deal from dell.com on the E-500 one lens kit ($630), but it has been almost a month and it still hasn't been shipped:-(.

aww man I'd be ticked hyperfocal! Mine will be here no later then friday. I ordered it last friday.

Funny you mention dell. My parents got their computer from dell- ordered it through them. I think by the time they got everything it was like 2 months. I've never heard my dad whine so much lol.

I ordered my 20D from Dell last April...

I am still dealing on issues with Dell from that order. Hell Computer should be avoided like the plague.

Bought my Evolt at a local camera store. Wasn't that much more expensive than ordering online when you include shipping. Besides I could hold the 3 different cameras I was thinking about, take some quick snap pics. Was also able to pic out what accessories I would want for it. But I didn't have to wait to get it and I put money into a local business.

Congratulations on your new purchase, Missinseattle. I'll be purchasing the 500 or the 300 as soon as the 500 comes to a local store so that I can compare the two. Did you get the two lens kit?

Hyperfocal, I think I would consider canceling my order from Dell after such a long wait. I agree with theSaj about this company after reading so many bad stories about them, including my own girlfriend's nightmare with this company. It's not worth the hassle for the extra savings you'll be getting. Just read the reviews on resellerratings.com and you'll see for yourself.

Try Arlington Camera. They have a good reputation.

Yea, I thought about canceling the order, but at the time I placed the order I used two coupon codes so the price I'm paying is about $150 less than at B&H or elsewhere. I bought my E-300 kit (for $539) and 20" WS LCD monitor from dell (for my mac) with no troubles. Currently they have the estimated ship date as tomorrow, so if they don't ship I might go ahead and cancel.

Dell seems to sell things they don't have in stock. Hot items are ordered quickly and may run out of stock or whatever. Folks should just forget about ordering Canon items because they take forever to ship.

Ordered my *ist DS from Dell and it got here in a couple days, no problem.

Interesting Add-on available in December.

McQuinn I bought it from Best Buy but had to order it. I actually dealt one on one with the sales manager. I didn't have the option of dealing with a local store because I was given a gift card from a friend. Shipping was free. All things ordered from Best Buy have free shipping. I basically got the camera 2 lens kit, 512mb CF ultraII card, and service plan, PLUS tax for 1000. The service plan covers everything unless the camera is dropped or stepped on. All regular service and cleaning is covered plus I get one free battery for the life of the service plan which is 4 years. I told the sales manager I wanted an extra battery and he said to just wait a year and get it then so I don't have to pay for it.

So all in all I think it was a good deal. Would have been less if the sales tax in Monroe NC wasn't so high.

Hey Kimberly, you can go on ebay and get a battery for cheap. I just got a spare and cost me like $12.00 and that included the shipping. Not a bad deal. Works great, I have it in the camera now.

So far I love the camera. The only thing I don't like is the auto flash. I prefer to turn it off and use at my discretion. It looks like I have to turn it off for each setting. Which can be done really quick, but it would be nicer to just turn it off and be done with it.

I was leary of the autoflash myself, but I have it on my little p&s and have learned to use it or turn it off.

Do you have any pics uploaded to share from your E-500? Would love to see something if you do.

Thanks for the battery tip. Will have to look into that. Also going to see if I can talk hubby into the 1GB card at the navy exchange lol. It's going to be on sale for 49 bucks the day care thanksgiving.

Auto flash?! Change the scene mode, simple enough. I have not run into this and have shot over 1000k pictures with the E500. Battery wise Its around 150 pictures, shooting jpeg. Could be more, but I recharge it by then. Still working on the night shots but have taken some good ones, still trying to get the balance right on the busy light shots during the night.

That's what I mean. Every time I change the scene mode, I need to turn off the flash. Unless I'm missing something, that's what I've done.

Um then something is wrong with your camera then. It will use the fill flash on "fill flash for close up object" but on other scene modes hasn't been a problem.

How long does it take the battery to charge? My lil kodak p&s only takes about an hour to 2 hours so I'm guess it takes longer then that.

And great pic, thanks for sharing. Can't wait to start taking night pictures!
