This free study is driving me crazy. I have 8 or so images I'd happily enter, a raft of nice shots besides, and I haven't been able to POST any of them... But here's some shots from a particular group I have decided to cull from the "possibles" list:

Just to post SOMETHING, ya know... Been a while...

Incidentally, my gripe with the WA shot is that I don't like that massive, dark, oval cloud reflection in the foreground at ALL...

With over two weeks before we start voting, it's bit early for outtakes.

I don't see it as being a problem, since it's a free study and anything goes. It's not as if "reactions" to these images are gonna validate some "solution" to the challenge theme, since there is no theme. These are just images I've taken in the last 2 weeks that I have held off posting up because they might have been too close to what I ended up submitting. But since nothing from that location has made my "cut", I just wanted to show these shots.

Just consider them images posted for comment LOL.

I was refering to myself, what I meant was with 2 weeks to go I haven't even culled my images and I expect my entry hasn't been shot yet. So it would bve to hard to call anything a outtake at this stage.

what time do you take these images Robert?

These particular images? 20 minutes or so before sunset. In general, referring to the large number of "sky shots" I have in my portfolio? I'm usually working from an hour before sunset until whenever the sky goes drab, or from half an hour before dawn to an hour after dawn. These images are pretty evenly divided between dawns and sunsets. I prefer dawns, as a rule, because it's usually calmer and I like smooth water, plus there's less traffic so I can park in illegal spots for a quick shot without getting hassled :-)

I rarely take any photos between, say, 8-9 AM and 3 PM or so. I like low light. If the skies are really spectacular, I'll work during the rest of the day. But the thing of it is, the Cape is basically a flat shooting environment; there are not a lot of prominent structures or landforms that are descriptively lit by more verticallight. When I'm shooting broad expanses of open space, whch I do a lot, I like low, raking light to bring out color and texture.

Gotcha. I was reading it as a criticism of posting "outtakes" before the challenge is finished. I normally don't do that, but EVERYTHING I shoot in November is a potential free study entry, until it becomes an "outtake".

I feel fortunate, incidentally, that I have a number of really nice shots to choose from already, so the pressure is off, so to speak. Weather around here in November is distinctly iffy, we could sock in and have drab light for the rest of the month at any time.

Really pretty colors, and overall nice images. But, as you pointed out, the large dark shadow really hurts. Too bad you didn't have a mega-industrial fan in your bag to hurry that cloud along. :-)
