How many of you enter every week, just to enter? Or do you only enter if that week's topic interests you? Or maybe, do you only enter if you have a photo that you are proud of and has a chance to do well in the voting? Personally, I enter only when the topic interests me and even then, the photo has to be something I'm proud of... even if it does not place well.

Just curious how everyone else does it.

I enter if I have an idea for the challenge and if I can pull it off reasonably well.

edit: Also If I remember . . . I have forgotten *gasp* about DPC for several weeks before.

i haven't missed a challenge but then there have been a few I should have missed! I treat it as a challenge to keep me from taking photos everyday of my little boy and the kittens...

If it weren't for DPC I would still be afraid of macros and studio images...lol oops I still am a little shy on the studio images, only cause I need some lighting equipment.

"Buy a print OF you"? You look like a seal?

(Sorry - I forgot to include the smiley face :) :) :)

I've tried to, though I missed Country Life through being a spaz and not uploading in time. Yes, I get excited when any of my pics breaks 4. This is because most of them don't deserve anything higher. :-> But entering and trying seems to be helping me, somewhat.

Well, clearly that was the seal himself talking, begging to have someone buy a print of him. And besides, it's a sea lion, not a seal. So, I wasn't saying it, the sea lion was.

I entered the first four challenges when I joined, then found that I was just too busy produce the kind of photos required to fit the challenges, I was also extermely busy at work and putting my new web site together, and yes here's the plug www.magicmedia.co.uk

I wwas considering entering speed but I'm going to Bodrum to lay by the pool this weekend and although I will take my camera I won't be looking for anything fast except in a bikini!

I used to enter no matter what. I can recall setting up, getting a shot, doing post processing and upload in 10 minutes, just barely (like seconds) before the deadline.
Those images scored in the 4 range and wasn't really worth entering. Now I only enter if I have time to get a good shot together...

It can be tough for people to put a good shot together if they are really busy, even professional photographers have to earn money!

I think it is better to enter something that you are content with after all the ego is a fragile beast and easily bruised.

I take pictures as a way of life. If, in last weeks production, there is one that (in my view) fits the ongoing challenge, I will submit it. On occasions I will go out of my normal mode and shoot just for the challenge if I have an idea that might fit. Just to find that the community thinks otherwise, but that can't be my problem.
I try to submit pictures that make people think twice. Which is a problem in a speed-voting competition (I mean the time for each picture to vote on is extremely limited). Since this is not the way to get the high votes, I have contented myself with a vote that shows the widest distribution. I hope one of these days to get a purely bimodal distribution of votes (although this is tough in view of the trolls).

I only enter if I:

a) Have the time to take and edit a shot
b) Have an idea of a shot which I think fits the challenge well and is interesting
c) Am relatively happy of the final product
d) Am curious to see how well I have performed a task

This week is indicating that I need to improve my post processing skills dramatically - I can take that advice on board and work on it.

I try to enter to both challenges. I love a good challenge. It is a good learning tool to keep your mind fresh and always thinking if you want to get better. I take about 400 pictures a week. Not all are good, and some are snapshots of the kids. My camera goes where I go. I never leave home without it.

I'm new here, but I post when I want to gauge the reaction of others to my photos. Due to the wide range of tastes, abilities and genres, this site is an ideal place to test work. It doesn't really suit those who try for more avante-guarde, challenging stuff, though.

Personally, I only submit pictures when I´m glad of my job. When I think the picture is not good (good for me), I prefer don´t submit any picture.

The most important is the photographer will be glad of his work.

just like passing up an assignment, I enter every week just because :) and it's cool to see the score changing day by day.

EDIT: Even poorly composed photos, I will submit to get feedbacks and comments from voters. This helps me learn new things. Of course, I wont purposely submit a bad photo!

I seems to be suffering from lack of ideas so haven't been entering at all lately... I do have a good idea for temperature but I've been so busy lately there's no way I'd get it done (but then it'd prob not look anything like in my head). Here's hoping I can get something good for 'round'.

I tend to try to take a shot for each challenge, although time got the better of me for 'Nude' and 'Night On The Town'.

I'm surprised though how many people happen to have a shot lying around that they can 'fit' into a challenge. If you're a pro then it's more likely you'll have some to choose from, but I wonder if this is why some (very good) challenge shots seem to be off-brief - like this one for 'Speed':
//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=26732

Personally, I go out specifically to shoot for these challenges which I think is the intention. If inspiration's not there though then I'll leave it.

Hey dude, don't you think it's kind of rude to asume that I did not go out and look for that shot. I tried many different shots for the speed challenge, and in the end actually went and bought the model I used in this shot, particularly for this challenge. To me there is nothing that says "speed" quite like a sports car. Did you even bother to read my comments on the photo before posting it here?

PS. I do feel flattered that you liked my shot, and I'm not all that mad at you for posting the link here ;)

Glad you're not offended - no offence intended. I didn't read your comment, but read others (I've read it now though). Just goes to show that if a shot looks slightly off-brief, as you mention, then annoying people like me will make incorrect presumptions! ;)

I try to enter only the challenges I feel inspire me... although sometimes I get caught up in the 'game'.

I think I need to start doing more photography on my own though.
