Since the Mayflower didn't leave England unti 1620(?) I take it these are a sort of made up history based on European life of the time? A sort of fantasy event? And do you not have gypsies in the USA now? Are they considered some sort of mystical people in the USA?

It's a mish mash of time periods and events. Mostly fantasy but they try to have daily events that is based on real events of a particular era. Gives people an opportunity to act, play, and live as if they really lived in that world.
Kind of funny seeing Chow Mein served at one of the food stands :)

It is based on being in england. About 1588 in england. But it is pretty historically acurate, considering their events coinside with specific events of that year. For example this years theme was Francis Drake comondeering gold from the spanish armoda and then Captain Grace O'Malley stealling the gold from him. These events actually took place, and they portrayed it pretty good.
Yes we have gypsies but they are not considered mystical. But the particular one my wife portrays is.

Sorry can't find any link between Francis Drake and Grace O'Malley. She did apparently attack Spanish ships and English but no history of her fighting Drake!
I think these Ren faires could dramatise things bit - but they sound like good fun. I bet they don't have sewerage in the streets and foul smells! In York we have a museum of life in old York and it STINKS!!!
