As I was checking out the winners for the Shutter Speed Challenge, I noticed a couple of photographs that boasted longer than 30 seconds. I checked out the specs on the camera that they used and it says that the max is 30 seconds...how can you get around that?
Thanks for entertaining my boneheaded (or maybe not so boneheaded questions lately)!

On some camera's u can set it on BULB this means if u hold the plug u can set your shutter as long as your finger can hold.. a tip for this is to buy a remote-controller so u can turn it on and off with a wire and u don't have to hold it so long. very handy

Because the original cable releases used a rubber bulb and tube to depress the shutter by the action of compressed air.
