I'm speaking artisticly here, but if God were to be holding something would it be in his palm or on his fingertips?

This is an aestetic I'm dealing with on a photo I'm working on, and would like some feedback.

I would have to say the palm would work best

God sets things free, in my mind; creates them and releases them to prosper or not. Fingertips is more suggestive of this IMO.

hmmmmmmmm I see the creation hovering above God's hand.

I would also have to say palm. If He is to hold something then He would hold it closely.

Aesthetically I view holding with the fingertips as being more manipulative (for lack of a better word). For example the expression. They have the whole world at their fingertips implies a minipulative type authority figure. On the flip side the children's song "He's got the whole world in His hands" implies a loving embrace held more closely to the body (in His palms).

Then again maybe I'm being overly analytical.

There's an old folk song/spiritual which goes

He's got the whole world in His hands (various other things take the place of "whole world" through an infinite number of verses)

To me, that suggests that whatever it is, it's being held/cradled in both cupped hands.

Fingertips implies holding/capture/restraint. Palm suggests cupping/nuturing/protecting. So I think he/she would have it lying in the palm of the hand, secure in his/her protection yet ready to float off.

Wow, lots of // :)

Seems the palms are more in the majority. Probably have more success with the majority vote. I do like the fingertip comment though.

IMO Robert got to the crux of the matter, it's really up ot what you want to imply. An object in a cupped palm might imply nurturing, protection, etc., whereas an object on fingertips, or on a fully-outstretched palm, might imply a setting free.

Bingo. It's all in what he wants to say.

Theres an Irish blessing that says "May God hold you in the hollow of his hand." I'm no authority on hollows, but to me that implies the palm.
