I've had a taste of dial-up modem speeds again and it sucks. I've moved this past week into my wife's parent's basement to get out of debt while I go to school. They don't have DSL and can't get there at their house and I hate dial-up since having a fast connection. I am feelin' for all you with dial-up cause I can relate now and this sucks. What used to take me less than five minutes to check email, go through this site and whatnot now takes like half an hour.

LOL, I have it worse - before moving into my current house, I rented a house in a pretty good location, giving me an average of 44-52kbps each time I connected with my US Robotics 56K modem.

Now I am only getting 28.8kbps and am feeling the *speed*..... :~(

I have 56k, but way out here in the middle of nowhere, we never connect at a decent speed. Probably about 1/2 of what it should be. So I feel your pain.

I feel your pain brother. I would get rid of cable tv if I had 2 choose between the two. I've seen the whole spread of speeds. 300baud (anyone else remember this) then got a 1200 baud and boy were we flying. I have a dsl connection with 768Kbps-1.5Mbps down 256Kbps up. Who needs TV at these speeds ;-)

I have highspeed internet as opposed to cable TV.... while sometimes it would be nice to have, I'd rather my highspeed connection. As it is, I can watch my beloved Aussie rules football over the internet whenver I want and it's pretty good quality really. AFL is something we don't seem to get on TV here in Canada. :(

I have a 300 baud modem in my drawer right now ... when I got it the 1200's were still too unreliable to pay the two- or three-fold extra price.

Now I have DSL at a pretty consistent (approximately) 200kbps and it makes all the difference. I don't want cable TV anyway.

ESPN used to carry Australian Rules Football. I loved the guys in fedoras and trenchcoats who ruled on the kicks, although I have no understanding of the game itself.
Be careful with your acronyms since we seem to have a fairly well-established Arena Football League in the US which also uses AFL.

I am getting the same as you. When I connect there it is between 24.0 and 28.8kbps. I would trade my cable tv for faster speed aas well. I called to find out about getting the satelite internet and it's $60 a month for the service and then an additional $40 for the equipment. I don't have an extra $100 a month to spend on that.

Dont forget that Satelite is one way also. You still need a connection, dial up, dsl, whatever, to upload. That sucks too cause I thought about a satelite connection. ahh well.

I did not know that so that would be out anyway because I would want to upload big images and stuff to my website as well as DCPrints. What I figured out that I'm going to do is just put my photos on a CD and take them to school or parents house to upload them.
