Hi - I'm hoping someone here can help me with this completely non-photography problem.

Up until yesterday, I was able to log in to the control panel for managing my web site at wwwl.literalexpressions.com. The site is hosted with iPowerWeb.com.

Yesterday, my password for accessing the control panel stopped working. I did not change it.

I called ipowerweb technical support. They said the login is working from their end, and they asked me to clear my cookies and my internet cache in my web browser. That did not solve the problem. They then suggested that something on my computer or in my home network is preventing me from logging in. I find this really strange, because I use the same password for many other things, and I am (so far) not having any trouble. I can also still establish an FTP connection with my FTP server.

I disabled Norton Internet Security, and I still have the problem.

Could anyone please provide suggestions on things I can try? Login is failing via my web browser from both my desktop computer and my laptop computer.

Thank you in advance.
Linda

Do you think I got a "crap response" from my technical support rep?

define "stopped working". Are you getting an error message?

Are you sure you're typing the same password? If they say they haven't changed anything, then it's probably something on your end. I dunno, i sympathise with the webhosts i guess, i get enough of these kind of complaints from people who forget their password or leave their caps lock on.

Are you using the vdeck thing that they talkabout on their support pages ?
" For your protection, we are enhancing your account access requirements. Starting August 18, 2005, you will be periodically asked to change your password prior to accessing your vDeck Hosting Account. For added security, you will be asked to authenticate yourself prior to accepting the change. We strongly recommend that you choose a secure password - ie, one that does not sound like a word, and contains at least one non-alphanumeric character - eg., !@#$%^&*. Your new password may not be the same as your old one."

Thank you for caring enough to respond. It's muchly appreciated. To answer the questions so far:

Stopped working = it's telling me the password is wrong - login failed.

I am not aware of any Vdeck capability on my account. I found that information before I called. I've never been prompted to authenticate myself or change my password by ipowerweb.

The password is the same as the one I use to log in to dpchallenge. When I cleared my cookies and internet cache, I was forced to reenter it in order to log in and post to this forum. No problem, so I am certain the password is not being blocked by my system.

Thanks again for your help - it appears that I have found my answer. I think it is related to resolving my domain name with the control panel address they originally sent me when I set the account up. When I substitute part of the URL they gave me with my domain name, I can log in successfully.

Problem resolved! Whew!
