Years ago, I read an artical in Popular Photography about a cartridge that would fit inside a 35 mm camera that had a sensor and flash memory, effectively turning a 35 mm camera into a digital camera. It was being developed by Kodak I believe.

I've never heard any more about it. Has anyone else heard more about something like this?

Never happen. Technologically doable but the big camera makers/sellers have enough clout to keep anything like that from ever coming to market.

I thought I read somewhere where the digital backs are used to record the image data but the camera still shoots film. may be wrong.

I'm pretty sure there was a digital back for Nikon, in the early days of digital? Lord knows they exist for medium and large format cameras, so you can switch between film and digital. Just like now you use different backs for color and B/W, or different film holders.

But of course, in the SLR world it's always been multiple bodies, not multiple backs for one body. I don't see this as being relevant at all now. Most of the cost of the dSLR isin the computer and the sensor, not the body itself, and you'd have to have both those on the "digital back", so.... If you want to shoot both, carry a FF dSLR and a film SLR both...

If the idea was to turn an older, film body into a FF dSLR on the cheap, it wouldn't be any cheaper at all...

Leica has their Digital Module-R for the R8 and R9 camera. Pretty nice i hear. The dynamic range is as good as in the 1DsMkII, and the colours are just damn nice.

Some dude on FreMiranda.com forums has it.
