For anyone who has not heard of Lonely Planet before, it started out as a travel guide (like Fodor's) for countries around the world. It has expanded into a website with travel information, as well as forums for people around the world and a tv program. I just had a business trip to Milwaukee where we were given a book called "One Planet" which was put together by the founder of Lonely Planet. It is a book with photographs from around the world - people, places, events. I just finished looking at it and wanted to recommend it to everyone. The photographs are just amazing. Very emotive and inspirational for anyone who enjoys photography or travel or both. It has given me tons of ideas of places I would like to visit and photograph. Just thought I would share!

I met a fellow once in Hong Kong in 1988, who shot for Insight guides and For Lonley Planet, he had some amazing shots of northern India and Nepaul. The striking thing was that he had one arm, the other ended just below his shoulder. How he could manage all his gear plus the requisit backpack and use an old Nikon F series with manual everything was beyond my understanding. When I asked the tactless question of how he could manage to do it he just said something about staying focused and changed the subject. |

Lonely Planet, along with Rough Guide, is a guide book series that is very well known in the UK and popular particularly with budget/ independent travellers.
Most LP guide books have tonnes of factual information on sights, accommodation and eating. For me, most are too light on photos and also on history, cultural and political information on the destination.
I'll keep an eye out for this One Planet book though.
