I bought a Hoya R72 Infrared filter for my Canon...both of which will be here on Saturday.
How many people have done infrared photography?
If you have I would appreciate some advice...because I've never done it before. I'm looking forward to breaking out my new camera...can't wait!

You're going to be shooting IR with film or digital?
AFAIK all digital cameras a fitted with an anti-IR filter over the sensor as digital sensors are over sensitive to IR otherwise (try pointing an IR remote at a digital camcorder and watch the white flashes). In order to shoot sucessful IR you need to do some pretty hefty camera modification:
Canon 300D IR filter removal
I've read that some digi-cams do better than others (the Canon 20Da may work with it's reduced IR filtering for astro-photography) but most digitals are going to need quite a bit of help in photoshop to bring out the effect you're hoping for.
I've not done any IR photography myself yet, but I do have plans for my £10 Ebay EOS1000 and IR film. I see the huge number of cheap used EOS film cameras as the perfect way into IR, and as an ideal backup camera should I suffer a failure with my 350D. |

I shot all but one of these with a Hoya R72 and Nikon D70. Before you remove the IR filter on the Cannon test it out. You can meter as you normally would just use the exposure comp to adjust. The most important aspect is white balance. Try to set you white balance manually after the filter is in place otherwise it is more difficult to correct in software. Anyway if you have an other questions drop me an email.

Thanks a bunch you guys...I'll have to play around with the filter some and see what I can do with it.
I bought a good tracking mount and I plan on doing some astro-photography. At first I just want to mount my camera directly to the mount and use a telephoto lens and see what I can come up with. Eventually I want to get a nice telescope though. We'll just have to wait and see...
