I posted this by accident under the Website Suggestions Forum...

Has there ever been discussion of a 2-dimensional voting scheme (I am thinking technical and creativity would be the dimensions)? Instead of giving a photograph just a 5, you would maybe give it a 4 for creativity and a 6 for technical quality. The final score would be a composite of the 2 dimensions. This way, even if people receive a lower score than they expected, and dont many useful comments, they will have a better idea of why people scored them they way they did.

I believe so. Voting patterns and styles are often a topic in the forums. Some users choose to leave comments that describe their take (3- 4- and n- dimensional voting), grading appeal, meet-the-challenge, technical quality, etc.

There were also java scripts and excel spreadsheet macros that would let people pick grades for each dimension, and the script/macro would generate the final grade and a comment.

I don't think that it was ever seriously considered as a redesign of the dpc, though. Not enough momentum for that, and frankly, not enough demand for it.
