A photo teacher at my school told me about this function in CS2 that you can load in all your bracketed (same shot, diff apet, shutter)photos into CS2 and run this thing and cs2 will find all these "good points" on the photos and compile them all with optimal settings and give you the best photo that can be made from all those other photos. Anyone have a clue what I am talking about?

Aint you talking about Photoshop Bridge?

no, I read about it too. it is like photo stitch, but with multiple images of different expostures. when I get home I will look in my magazines. That is where I think I read it.

HDR image maybe? Aperture needs to be same for each shot. Shutter speed hence exposure will be different for each.

its HDR,
File, Automate, Merge to HDR

Main advantage of HDR merge is if you have say a landscape image, taken at varying brackets, exposing at different exposures, with a range of proper exposure of the sky to the proper exposure of the shadows, and by looking at all the images, can essentially combine/merge into an evenly exposed image. Sort of like a really advanced shadow / highlight tool. Multiple, bracketed shots from a tripod is what it is suited best for.

you wrote "same shot, diff apet, shutter"

Do not change the aperture in a bracket. You can shoot in Bracket mode with most major cameras. It will do so by adjusting only the shutter speed for a number of consecutive shots. This is best done on a tripod.

And the HDR format doesn't create a well exposed image from the merger. It only matches points to see where the image lies as far as "range", then fits it all into the 32bits of range that HDR offers. After that, you choose how to use that data to create an image. All it's doing is fitting the data together on the same image.
