I need to photograph some cakes now I have photographed plenty of food dishes before but never a cake. My sister graduate a culinary school in NYC almost a year ago and she got asked to make some cakes and more people are looking to buy some so I have to photograph them for her so she can put them in a portfolio. I just never photographed cakes before. Anyone here ever did this?

For product photography especially if the icing will be shiny, I'd suggest a couple of soft boxes, or at least some 500w work lights from Home deppot with some diffuser and a reflector setup. Some type of hair or spot light would be good too. Nice black velvety background seems a good idea, depends on the cake color.
