Please have a (second) look at my grain entry and tell me what's right/wrong with it. IMO it scored rather low, maybe because it's a picture of a cat? I think the subject is justified here, because the grain adds to the fur appearance. Just want to learn something from it (only got 3 comments during the challenge). Thank you for your time!

Commented also. For what it's worth, here's a quick adjustment of the image in 2 steps; first, levels adjustment for more aggresive tonal range, and second, selection of the eyes, use of dodge tool to lighten the irises a bit, and selective color to add some color. This second adjustment, btw, is NOT legal in basic editing. But the two adjustments, taken together, give the image a little more oomph IMO.

Thank you all, really helpful comments. Actually, Robert, what you did to it is what I had in mind, but then I liked the flat image better for some reason. I think I'll have another go at it and post the result for comparison.
