If I understand it correctly - the rules say no cloning. I can understand not removing items in the photo. But I have a photo I would like to enter that has the dreaded "dust spots" on the sensor. I am making the assumption that I can't remove those either under Basic rules. Is that correct?

Nope - you can't remove them unless you can do it with dust and scratches or noise removal.

No Spot editing under basic rules, only changes on the whole image. LOL GeneralE your camera is almost as old as mine:)

I still use it a lot, for both DPC and the occasional stock image; it's still clicking away after a surprising amount of abuse. I also have a Canon S1 IS I'm trying to use more.

ok, I'll admit it, I love my old arse D-450, heck I paid near $500 for it new 7 years ago. It works great still, been on many trips, has a few hot pixels, made a mount for it to my telescope, and 5 different memory cards... But, It is time for an upgrade, today I bought a Olympus E-500 for my birthday coming up, I hope to make it last another 7 years...

Can you post some plans for that?
