Thanks Becky! The colors really were fairly bold to begin with. I was playing with the new RawShooter Premium for the first time today. These colors were set pretty much at the raw conversion stage with only a little bit of photoshop work done in the end (mainly Local Contrast USM and Sharpening USM but #2 used a little Dodge & Burn to get the emphasize the highlights as well).

Thanks Lori! By the way, you left the above on image #2. It's interesting because I didn't do anything special for a "dreamy look" on that particular image. I believe image #1 has an overlay filter layer with gaussian blur (about 40 px radius) at about 25% opacity. This technique, with varying degrees of opacity and blur radius, is where I usually turn for a dreamy look.
But image #2 ... the only thing "special" about it was a little Dodge & Burn to add a little more light to the building and especially the area surrounding the car. (It's where I would have liked the sun to have fallen had I had time to stick around and wait for the clouds to move)

It seems like I'm usually in too big of a hurry to stop the car and take pictures. Or... even if I'm not in such a big hurry, I have people in the car and I just don't want to make them "have to wait" while I stop and shoot.
This time, however, my daughter was on the bus. And while I missed *many* opportunities on the way to St. George. At one point I accidently got ahead of the bus (they pulled over for lunch and I didn't know it until she called me). So then I decided I had time to shoot! :-)
One of these days, I want to just take a trip for myself and go shooting... |
