Well you know how tapping F10 during boot is supposed to launch System Recovery? Well for some reason it's not working on my computer anymore. Windows system RESTORE still works, but not System Recovery. I keep tapping F10 but the comp simply ignores it and proceeds to boot into XP as usual; as if my F10 button doesn't exist... I did have a few nasty spyware/viruses recently so that might have somthing to do with this. Anyone ever experience this? What the heck is goin on with my F10!?

Try F8,

That should give you a few more options.

F8 does nothing, just like F10 :(

And how dare you insult my comp like that kirb! That hurt her feelings!

If you were repeatedly pushing F10, try pushing it down constantly.

If you were just pushing it down, try repeatedly pushing it down...

(edit)

Are you sure it's not F11?

I think some systems respond to F5 being pushed... But a good swift kick in the CPU usually helps mine! ;)

Press F8 and F9 alternatively and continuously and it should boot up in the safe mode

Are you pressing the f8 button just after your memory post? If not you'll miss your chance.

I have seen some systems that will not recognise a USB keyboard during bootup until windows has started, unless you enable it through BIOS!

Try this link:

System Restore

Also, you didn't disable system restore in your system properties did you?

get an 8lb sledgehammer use it smash keyboard to bits, if that doesn't scare the rest of the computer into behaving, smash it too. You won't necessarily fix your computer problems, but you won't have to deal with them anymore, plus, if you do it right, you'll feel better and get a good workout.

Boot your computer up, go to microsoft.com and install their free anti spyware, run it in safe mode and get rid of everything that shows up, reboot ... I've done it too many times :)

What is it from the system that you want to restore?

If it is system files you want put back to normal, have your system cd handy and from a command (cmd) prompt run:

sfc /scannow

ED: Looks Like: C:\sfc /scannow

sfc is a Microsoft Command Line utility (stands for System File Checker). sfc.exe lives in the System32 directory.

This command line utility works with all Windows back to 98, will scan all of the important system files and if it finds bad things it will copy the correct files from your OS cd (or Service Pack dir).
