I currently have a 4.8 in GRAIN and a 3.5 in WHITE. I'm not very suprised at the scores and IMO I'm getting just about what I expected.

Here is the question...If you shoot a photo for a certian challenge and you personally don't think it will score say....above a 4.5 - 5 would you still enter or sit it out?

I have had fun with my 3 entries that scored below 5 and do not wish I could "take it back"...how about you?

I use to worry about how it would score and that influenced my decision to enter or not.
Now the decision is easy, if I like it, I enter it.

I have a 4 score for delicate. I knew I would and entered it anyway. I had better shots I could have used, but they were only better because I used adv editing on those. I suck at basic editing. I am better at ps than photography (i can admit that). I entered anyway because there have been pictures that I thought were terrible and rec a 5+ score for. So I figured ...."what do I know?" I think that it is good practice anyway. Enter! ENter! Enter!! I can't help myself.

I used to enter just to enter. I stopped - if I have nothing I LIKE I don't enter. If I like it but don't think it'll score too well, I enter it anyway; there is always someone else out there who will like it as much as I do (see my ground up entry). Also, I could be completely wrong (D&L entry) or I can get some really helpful comments (many of my entries).

In other words, the benefits outweigh the deflation of my ego. :)

Simple:

Are you entering for a score - "Do Not Enter It!"

Are you entering to learn - "Enter It!"

Are you entering to show - "Enter It! Others might enjoy!"

I am relatively new to the site. I have had some good finishes including one in eighth place. I must say that I have learned something from each challenge entered, and want to say to all of you who get upset by low scores, that if you are like me, you will learn so much more from a poorly scored picture than from a highly scored picture. One of the reasons is that when it is well liked, you get congratualations,. When it is distained you get advice. This is a great site and a great experience, even with its flaws (like friendship voting and some entrants here have alot of friends. Also complicated pictures that require time to absorb do not do as well- unfortunate but I am sure that this is a function of the avalanche of entries). Currently, I am getting my worst score ever on two separate entries.... but education does not come without a price. So keep on entering and do not get discouraged.
