I wanted to get a softbox for fashion/portrait type work but they are a little on the expensive side. Alienbees has something called a brollybox that they describe to be "the poor man's softbox." Anyone use one of these and know how they compare to a softbox?

It just like an umbrella with diffusion material over the opening. Unlike a softbox there is no internal diffusion material. IMO, it it not a good as either one. The catchlights are not as pleasing as an umbrella, and the light is not nearlly as diffuse as a softbox.

Thanks for the input. I already have a 60" and 45" umbrella with a removable black backing. Maybe I won't get the brollybox afterall.
