Being caught up in baseball fever here in the Houston area, I named my entry on a whim. Of course to me, the title was the only reason that the picture fit the theme.



My question is, if I had named it Rice Dryer, (which is what is a picture of) how would people have scored it?

I really am curious, as this is my first entry here and therefore the only time I understand the thoughts behind the title.

To me, it is just not an interesting composition. I wouldn't have scored it any higher with a different title. Maybe shot at a different angle or with different lighting it would have more interest. (I am origianlly from Houston--yay, the Astros finally madeit to the World Series! It would be nice if they won the next 4!)

Personally, I suspect the title helped, not hidnered, you. It's a pretty lackluster image, particularly when the low-contrast processing is added on, and it doesn't have any real "what" factor to it absent the title.

That it is a rice dryer is neither here nor there. Photographing a generic building and assuming I'd ask myself "what is this building's function?" is a bit of a stretch.

Who are the Astros, what's a rice dryer, and what do the two have to do with each other?

So it would certainly have me saying 'What?!'...

Thanks, but there wasn't any processing done. Not really knowing anything about Photoshop (took 20 minutes just to resize it) I couldn't process it in any way that seemed to bring any zing. I'm gonna have to go through the different tutorials (your workflow one looks great) before I try to enter another challenge. This was done more to get a feel for doing more than voting and posting in forums.

Edit: Oops, now that "thanks" looks condescending to me, but I really meant it to show my appreciation.

Didn't feel condescended to, don't worry. As to your main point, it reminds me of the Sherlock Holmes scene (I'm paraphrasing here):

Holmes: And what about the dog in the night?
Watson: There was no dog.
Holmes: Exactly!

Choosing not to process is a processing decision, if you catch my drift?
