can anyone help me make a picture smaller. i have a 640 x480 picture but it shows up with 220 kb's after i did some minor color changes on it. i notice some pictures on dp challenge that are 640 x 470 with 22 or 42 kb.thanks for your time if you can help me.

If you have Elements or CS you can save for web, which lets you save to the quality you want via a slider control.

You need to increase the amount of compression applied when saving as JPEG. Depending on your software, this will be a choice in a dialog box or a slider if you have a "Save For Web" feature.

Applying less sharpening will also make the file smaller for any given level of compression.

thanks to all i will try this. i don't think i have photoshop on my computer i will ck to see. i am new to computers and digital photography so some of these things sound greek to me i do have a dell with windows xp and i can adjust the size of my pictures it is just so drastic when i do try to adjust the size-i just figured out how to do a profile picture @120 x 90.
